Kings 18: 24
And
call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call
on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth
by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered
and said, It is well spoken.

Did
you know...
the original showdown was in the bible?
It
must have been such an amazing event to see...
|
"God
versus the gods"
Here
is the background
before
we get to the Good stuff...
God
was so upset that His people were worshipping other
Gods.
God
sent his servant Elijah to speak for Him
and to prove that the LORD is the God of Israel.
God
loved his originally chosen people so much that He
wanted to prove to them who He was.
God
also used this showdown to prove to all of us today.
Us belivers who have been brought into the people
of God by joining Jesus as part of His body on earth.
1
Kings 18
24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will
call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth
by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered
and said, It is well spoken.
25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose
you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first;
for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods,
but put no fire under.
26 And they took the bullock which was given them,
and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal
from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear
us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered.
And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked
them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either
he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey,
or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after
their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood
gushed out upon them.
29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and
they prophesied until the time of the offering of
the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice,
nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near
unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And
he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken
down.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the
number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom
the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be
thy name:
32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name
of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar,
as great as would contain two measures of seed.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock
in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill
four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt
sacrifice, and on the wood.
34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did
it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time.
And they did it the third time.
35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he
filled the trench also with water.
36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering
of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet
came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and
of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art
God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that
I have done all these things at thy word.
37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may
know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast
turned their heart back again.
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the
burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and
the dust, and licked up the water that was in the
trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their
faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the
LORD, he is the God.

God's
power is without question
but so is his love...
If you would like this God
of power to be your God then realize that everyone has questions
about God. What is He like? Does He really care about me?
How do I get to know Him?
On one occasion, a class of college students were drawing
pictures about people from the Bible. One young lady was especially
intent in her work. "What are you drawing?" an observer asked.
"Oh, I'm drawing a picture of God," she replied confidently.
"Well, that's a nice idea," he answered, "but really no one
knows what God looks like." "Oh, they will when I get done!"
she replied, and hurried on with her drawing.
Think about that for a moment: "They'll know what God looks
like when I get done." An overstatement? Yes, for a regular
person. But not for Jesus Christ. He came to show us God.
One of the names given to Jesus is "Emmanuel," which means
"God with us." When Jesus was on earth, God was on earth.
When Jesus healed, God healed. When Jesus forgave sinners,
God forgave sinners. The Bible says that "God was in Christ,
reconciling the world unto Himself" (2 Corinthians 5:19).
When Jesus came to earth, He revealed God through simple yet
beautiful figures of speech. He said, "I am the good shepherd
. . . I am the door . . . I am the bread of life."
A good shepherd is a tenderhearted person, seeking each lost
man, each lost woman in our big, bustling world. He is the
door. Through Him is the knowledge of God. He is the bread
of life. He is to your soul what bread is to your body.
On the cross of Calvary Jesus fully revealed God's love. When
He died, He was actually taking our place that we might live.
There He took the punishment that you and I deserved for our
sins. Why? The answer is divinely clear: "God so loved the
world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life"
(John 3:16).
By Christ's birth, His life on earth, His death, and His resurrection
from the grave, we can know God. He promises: "I am the way,
the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but
by Me" (John 14:6).
Do you know God? Or do you just know about Him? There is a
big difference. You can know all the theological facts but
not know Him. Knowing God requires personal faith in His Son
and what He has accomplished for you. Coming to Him is your
admission that you are turning from your sins to receive Jesus
as your Savior and Lord.
Jesus Christ invites you: "Behold, I stand at the door, and
knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in" (Revelation 3:20).
Come to Christ today. He is God's answer for your questions.

God's
Love for YOU!
God
can help you become more like Him.
We have all done wrong in our lives. God sent His only Son,
Jesus, to earth to be a human, just like us, except Jesus
never did wrong. Even so, He chose to die so that He could
pay the death penalty for our doing wrong. Three days after
He died, God raised Him back to life again!
Do
you want to have a clean, new life?
Then believe in what Jesus did for you. Tell God that you
are sorry for your doing wrong and thank Him for sending Jesus
to save you. The Bible says, If anyone is in Christ, he is
a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians
5:17). God will change you on the inside to make you a totally
new creature. To do this, you can pray something like this:
Dear
God, I am sorry for the bad things I do. Thank You for sending
Jesus to pay the penalty for my doing wrong. I now confess
before you that I make Jesus the Lord of my life. Please change
me on the inside and help keep me from doing bad so I can
live a clean, new life for You. Amen.

When
you just prayed to ask God to lead you, forgive you, and change
you...
What
happened when you asked Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour
is...
ALL
the angels in heaven rejoiced!
You
brought God and his angels in heaven joy!

There
is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner
that repenteth.

King
of Kings
"King of kings, and Lord of lords." Revelation 19:16
O thank the Lord, the Lord of love;
O thank the God all gods above;
O thank the mighty King of kings,
Whose arm hath done such wondrous things.
King of kings forever and ever;
Lord of lords, forever and ever,
King of kings forever and ever;
King of kings and Lord of lords!
Give thanks to God, for good is He,
Thanks to the God of gods give ye;
Thanks give the Lord of lords unto,
Who only wonders great can do.
Who thought on us amidst our woes,
And rescued us from all our foes;
Who daily feeds each living thing;
O thank the Heav'n's Almighty King.
O praise the Lord, for He is kind,
Give thanks to Him with heart and mind;
His mercy flows an endless stream,
To all eternity the same.
Let
all the earth their voices raise
"Sing unto the Lord, all the earth." Psalm 96:1
Let all the earth their voices raise
To sing the choicest psalm of praise,
To sing and bless Jehovah's Name:
His glory let the heathens know,
His wonders to the nations show,
And all His saving works proclaim.
The heathens know Thy glory, Lord,
The wondering nations read Thy Word,
In Britain is Jehovah known:
Our worship shall no more be paid
To gods which mortal hands have made;
Our Maker is our God alone.
He framed the globe, He built the sky,
He made the shining worlds on high,
And reigns complete in glory there:
His beams are majesty and light;
His beauties, how divinely bright!
His temple, how divinely fair!
Come the great day, the glorious hour,
When earth shall feel His saving power,
And barbarous nations fear His Name;
Then shall the race of man confess
The beauty of His holiness,
And in His courts His grace proclaim.
