Timothy 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of
all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For
kings, and for all that are in authority; that we
may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness
and honesty.

The British National Anthem...
Where
did the National
Anthem come from?
Like "Rule, Britannia" the National Anthem of Great Britain
"God Save the King / Queen " was composed by Thomas Augustine
Arne (1710-1778) and first sung in 1745 during the Jacobite
invasion of England. It was performed after the staging of
Ben Jonson's play The Alchemist at the Theatre Royal, London.
In an attempt to restore the Scottish House of Stuart to the
throne Jacobite forces, under the leadership of Charles Edward
Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie or the Young Pretender,
invaded England in 1745. They managed to defeat George II's
army at Prestonpans. Bonnie Prince Charlie was proclaimed
king in the market square of Preston and eventually reached
the city of Derby.
The invasion constituted a serious threat to the monarchy
at that time and this explains why the words of the National
Anthem have the form of a prayer of petition for the safety
and well-being of the monarch. The Jacobites were later defeated
at Culloden 16th April 1746.
The invasion of England also explains the following anti-Scottish
words that had also been inserted into the song:
Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush and like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush,
God save the King.
Marshall Wade, referred to in the above lines, was an officer
in the army sent to halt the advance of the Jacobite troops
in the north. The lines were appropriately omitted when the
song was adopted as the British National Anthem.

God
save the Queen
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and Glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen!
O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall;
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
Oh, save us all!
Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign;
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!
Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world over
From every latent foe,
From the assassins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, prince, and friend,
God save the Queen!

So
where did the expression...
God save the Queen! Come from?
1 Samuel 10:24
And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD
hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people?
And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
2 Samuel 16:16
And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend,
was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God
save the king, God save the king.
2 Samuel 22:32
For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our
God?
1 Kings 1:25
For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat
cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's
sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest;
and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God
save king Adonijah.
1 Kings 1:34
And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him
there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and
say, God save king Solomon.
1 Kings 1:39
And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle,
and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the
people said, God save king Solomon.
2 Kings 11:12
And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon
him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and
anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God
save the king.
2 Chronicles 23:11
Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the
crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And
Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save
the king.
It is a beautiful blessing
that God's people receive that we can pray for those who are
in leadership.
The Lord wants us to pray for these
men and women
And.. like keeping the rest of his commandments
He wants us to receive the blessing
That comes from following His word

How
you can you...
...become a child of a King
Who
am I? Why am I here? What is life all about?
As a teenager, David found himself wrestling with these questions.
Growing up as one of twelve children, he struggled to find
his own identity and discover his place in the world. He wasn't
very good at school.
There was still an emptiness deep inside. Something
was missing. David began being rebelious. For a while he managed
to keep out of any serious trouble, but hard living began
to take its toll. He realized he was losing control.
I felt so discouraged, so disappointed in myself. I couldn't
stand who I was. I wanted to give up on life.
Just when it seemed he'd hit rock bottom, heard a message
of good news that caught David's attention by a local pastor.
Hours later, David found himself sitting in the pastor's office,
pouring out his heart. I didn't know what I was doing there
but I wanted someone to hear my pain.
The pastor listened with great compassion. Then he asked David
a thought-provoking question: David, how would you like to
start life all over again?
David didn't think he could. I don't see how I can clean my
life up and become the person you want me to be, he said.
No, no, replied the pastor.
You don't have to. God will take you just as you are. He went
on to explain that the Bible says: God shows his love for
us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us
(Romans 5:8).
We've all chosen to live life our own way, on our own terms.
We've broken God's rules, disobeyed His laws. The Bible calls
this sin. Sin becomes an instant barrier between God and man.
Ultimately it leads to death and hell eternal separation from
God.
But God had a plan. He made a way to reconcile us to Himself.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that
whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal
life (John 3:16).
Jesus set an example for us by living a perfect and sinless
life. And then, although He didn't have to, He willingly laid
down His life for us. He died on the cross for our sins, taking
the punishment in our place, paying the penalty for us.
The Bible tells us that because of what Jesus suffered, because
of His death on the cross, because of His resurrection, the
power of sin has been broken. Those who trust in Jesus are
born again. The Scriptures explain, If anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the
new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Listening to the pastor share these truths, David says,
My defenses were shattered. For the first time, I realized
that I needed the help of someone greater than myself. I swallowed
my pride and invited Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior.
That day he began a journey of transformation, a journey of
faith. Along the way he found answers to the questions that
had long haunted him. He discovered meaning and purpose in
life. He found hope and peace and joy. So great was the impact
of his experience, David decided to devote his life to helping
other searching rebels find their way. He became a pastor
himself.
Years of soul-searching led David to the discovery that purpose
and meaning in life can only be found through a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ. That same life-changing relationship is
available to you today. Experience it for yourself, by praying
something like this:
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner
in need of a Savior. Thank You for sending Jesus to die on
the cross for my sins. Please forgive me. I surrender my life
to You completely as your child. I ask you to be king of my
life. Show me what Your plan and purpose is for me. Help me
to live in a way that honors You as my king. Amen.

exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise

But you shall not be so: but he that is greatest among
